Now I Sing My Song for Jesus

Reid Schumacher

3/10/1952 - 3/14/1995

Reid was a very dear friend who died of lung cancer in 1995. In the summers of 1993 and 1994 he and I traveled to Houston, Texas where we recorded four of Reid's songs at Rivendell Recorders. This page contains the liner notes from Reid's four-song mini album and you can download the MP3 files for the songs below.

Lyrics
I used to sing and laugh and play life's silly game
A smile disguised my breaking heart before I knew his name
I used to wonder why peace could not be found
Until his love transformed my heart into a brand new sound

CHORUS
Now I sing my song for Jesus
He is the hope for my life, He's the way
Now I live my life for Jesus
He is the Son that shines His light into my day

He walked into my life, He understood my fears
He alone erased the pain of all those wasted years
Now all my melodies don't always ring out true
But every song within my heart, an offering to you

CHORUS

Jesus you gave your life to me
Please hear the prayer that I pray
Help others see your light through me
Till all the world can say

CHORUS

He is the Son that shines his light into my day
He is the Son that shines his light
The son that shines his light
The Son that shines his light into my day
Now I sing my song for Jesus

Lyrics
Sent to earth to suffer
Sent to earth to die
He took my place upon the cross
For my sins I cry

CHORUS
God's only Son
Hanging on a tree
With blood that washed away my sin
Hail the victory

Still in my sin I suffer
In my sin I cry
Am I the one who's in the crowd
That's yelling crucify?

CHORUS

Blood of the Lamb
Messiah, Lord and Christ, the great I Am
Save me from the sin I call my own
Deliver me. for I cannot stand alone

All the good I try to do
Just seems out of place
Eyes with tears still see a cross
Receive Your saving grace

CHORUS

CHORUS

Hail the victory
Hail the victory

Lyrics
Today I finally realized that things inside me can't be right
The candle I've been burning at both ends is not the real light
Gotta get back to the time when people saw that I was burning bright

CHORUS
This little gospel light of mine
I'm gonna let it shine
This little gospel light of mine
I'm gonna let it shine
This little gospel light of mine
I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine. all the time, let it shine

The sun up in the shy it is the light that guides us through the day
At night the moon and all the stars are shining when we kneel to pray
But Jesus is the light that is the truth, the life, and only way

CHORUS

All around the neighborhood, I'm gonna let it shine
All around the neighborhood, I'm gonna let it shine
All around the neighborhood, I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Light above shining down on me
Reflecting love for all the world to see
Reflecting love for all the world to see
Reflecting love for all the world to see
This little gospel light of mine I'm gonna let it shine,
This little gospel light of mine I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine

Lyrics
I hope you remember, cause it's been such a long, long time
We were playin' guitars on the park bench, and kickin' around some rhymes
But when I woke up next morning, He was walkin' inside my head
A message to you from God, Oh it's true, and these are the words that He said

CHORUS
(and He said to)
Dream a thousand dreams, Sing a million songs
Lift your praise to God above and we'll all sing along
But I don't know if I will ever pass your way again
So don't forget to dream a thousand dreams.

Early next morning from my room with a view of the park,
I looked at the empty park bench. just standing alone in the dark
Was drivin' away, 'cause I couldn't stay, and my memory turned to you.
Words that return. I hope that you learn
That your dreams will soon come true

CHORUS

And Joseph he was a dreamer
But his visions they all came true
And God is the giver of all of our dreams
A thousand for me and for you

CHORUS

CHORUS
